How this works and common questions
About this tool
The percent is your food cost divided by the menu price. The target price is the food cost divided by the target percent you type. A simple estimate, not advice. Nothing you type is stored or sent.
How it works
Divide the food cost by the menu price and show that as a percent, half up to two decimals. Divide the food cost by the target percent and round half up to the cent. That second figure is a menu price, not a promise about what to charge.
Rules
You type the cost, the price, and the target. A food cost of zero is 0.00%. A menu price of zero cannot make a percent. A simple estimate, not advice.
Questions
How is the example worked out?
A food cost of $3.50 and a menu price of $12.00 is 3.50 / 12.00 = 29.1666…%, which rounds half up to 29.17%. A 30% target is 3.50 / 0.30 = $11.666…, which rounds half up to $11.67.
What if the percent is over 100?
The page still shows it. That happens when the food cost is higher than the menu price. It is a comparison of the figures you typed, not advice to change the price.
Where does the target percent come from?
You type it. The page does not supply a food-cost target. A simple estimate, not advice.
Do I need an account?
No. The tools work without one. You only need to sign in to save your work.
Is what I type saved?
No. Nothing is saved unless you sign in and choose Save. Otherwise it stays on the page.
Do you show ads or sell my information?
No. We show no ads and we do not sell your information.
Is this tax or legal advice?
