How this works and common questions
About this tool
Wholesale is the MSRP times 1 minus the retailer margin you type. The MSRP rule starts on the retail figure as entered. A simple estimate, not advice. Nothing you type is stored or sent.
How it works
Apply the MSRP rule to the retail price, then multiply by 1 minus the retailer margin and round half up to the cent. Multiply that unit price by the case count. A retail price of $19.99 at a 45% margin stays $19.99 and wholesales at $10.99.
Rules
Half a cent rounds up. $19.99 times 55% is $10.9945, which rounds half up to $10.99. Six units are $65.94 with no further rounding. A simple estimate, not advice.
Questions
How is the example worked out?
Retail $19.99 with the as-entered rule stays $19.99. A 45% retailer margin leaves 55% as wholesale: $19.99 × 0.55 = $10.9945, which rounds half up to $10.99. A case of 6 is $65.94. The retailer keeps $9.00, which is 45.02% of $19.99 after that rounding.
What does nearest dollar do to $19.99?
$19.99 rounds half up to $20.00. At a 45% margin the wholesale unit is $11.00 and a case of 6 is $66.00.
What does end in .99 do?
$19.99 already ends in .99, so it stays $19.99. A retail price of $20.00 becomes $20.99, then the margin you typed is applied to that MSRP.
