How this works and common questions

About this tool

Studs are the spaces along the wall, plus one for the end, plus any extras you type. Plate length is the plate count times the wall length.

How it works

A 96 inch wall at 16 inch spacing has 6 spaces and 7 studs when you add no extras. Three plates are 288.00 inches, which is 24.00 feet.

Rules

Blank extras count as 0. A wall shorter than the spacing still gets a stud at each end.

Questions

How many studs in 8 feet at 16 inches?

96 inches divided by 16 is 6 spaces. Add 1 for the end and you get 7 studs.

What if the wall does not land on a space?

102 inches at 16 inch spacing is 8 studs without extras, and the last space is 6.00 inches.

Can I use millimetres?

Yes. A 2400 mm wall at 400 mm spacing is 7 studs, the same pattern as 96 inches at 16 inches.
