How this works and common questions

About this tool

Each line is the quantity times the cost of one unit. The batch is the sum of the lines, and one serving is that batch divided by the yield. A simple estimate, not advice. Nothing you type is stored or sent.

How it works

Multiply each quantity by its unit cost and round that line half up to the cent. Add the lines to get the batch. Divide the batch by the servings and round half up to the cent. The unit is a label: 2.5 kg at $1.20 per kg is $3.00.

Rules

You type every cost. A zero unit cost is allowed. The CSV keeps quantities to 3 decimals and money to 2 decimals. A simple estimate, not advice.

Questions

How is the example worked out?

Flour is 2.5 kg at $1.20, which is $3.00. Butter is 0.5 kg at $8.00, which is $4.00. Eggs are 6 at $0.40, which is $2.40. The batch is $9.40. Divided by 8 servings, $9.40 / 8 = $1.175, which rounds half up to $1.18.

Does the unit change the math?

No. The line cost is the quantity times the cost of one selected unit. Pick kg only when the cost you type is for one kilogram.

What if a line is exactly half a cent?

Half a cent rounds up. 1.005 units at $1.00 is $1.005, which becomes $1.01 before the lines are added.

Do I need an account?
