How this works and common questions

About this tool

Profit is the price minus the costs. That profit is divided by paid hours plus unpaid hours. A simple estimate, not advice. Nothing you type is stored or sent.

How it works

Subtract the costs from the price. Add the paid hours and the unpaid hours. Divide the profit by that total and round half up to the cent. The page also shows the figure you would get from the paid hours alone.

Rules

Hours use two decimals. 1.50 is one hour and 30 minutes. Both hour fields may be zero, but not both at once. A simple estimate, not advice.

Questions

How is the example worked out?

A price of $500.00 minus costs of $80.00 is $420.00. Paid hours of 4.00 plus unpaid hours of 1.50 are 5.50 hours. $420.00 / 5.50 = $76.3636…, which rounds half up to $76.36. Leaving out the unpaid time is $420.00 / 4.00 = $105.00.

What counts as unpaid time?

Whatever you type in that field. The page does not decide which hours are unpaid. A quote visit or a drive can go there if you want it in the total.

What if the costs are higher than the price?

The profit is negative and the profit per hour is negative. The page says so. A simple estimate, not advice.

Do I need an account?

No. The tools work without one. You only need to sign in to save your work.

Is what I type saved?

No. Nothing is saved unless you sign in and choose Save. Otherwise it stays on the page.

Do you show ads or sell my information?

No. We show no ads and we do not sell your information.

Is this tax or legal advice?

No. Results are estimates for planning. Check rates and rules with the official source or a qualified professional.
