How this works and common questions
About this tool
Sequential discounts apply one after another and are selected to start. Added discounts are summed, then applied once. A simple estimate, not advice. Nothing you type is stored or sent.
How it works
One after another takes 20% off $80.00 to leave $64.00, then 10% off $64.00 to leave $57.60. That is 28.00% off. Adding the percents instead takes 30% off $80.00 and leaves $56.00.
Rules
Each sequential step rounds half up to the cent before the next percent. Added percents that pass 100 are capped at 100. A simple estimate, not advice.
Questions
How is the example worked out?
The original price is $80.00 and the cost is $30.00. 20% off leaves $64.00. 10% off $64.00 leaves $57.60. The percent off is $22.40 / $80.00 = 28.00%. Profit is $27.60, which is 47.92% of $57.60.
What if the same discounts are added instead?
20% plus 10% is 30% off $80.00, which is $56.00. The margin left is $26.00 / $56.00 = 46.428…%, which rounds half up to 46.43%.
Does a second discount apply to the original price?
Only if you select Add the percents. One after another applies the next discount to the sale price already rounded to the cent.
