How this works and common questions

About this tool

This converter divides the fraction you type. A mixed number adds the whole part. Inch fractions also become millimetres. Nothing is stored.

How it works

A fraction is the numerator divided by the denominator. A mixed number adds the whole number to that fraction. 3 5/8 is 29/8, which is 3.625000. Inch fractions use the same decimal, then multiply by 25.4 to get millimetres.

Rules

The denominator is at least 1. The decimal shows 6 places, rounded half up. 1/3 is 0.333333. 2/3 is 0.666667. 5/8 is 0.625000. Nothing you type is stored or sent.
