How this works and common questions

About this tool

Ownership is the purchase price minus salvage, spread over the years you type. Operating cost adds fuel, repairs and other yearly amounts. The hourly figure divides the year by your hours. Every weight, price and rate on this page is a number you type. This tool does not include a built-in weight, rate or price. This is a simple estimate, not advice.

How it works

Ownership per year is purchase minus salvage, divided by years, rounded to the cent. Fuel for the year is fuel per hour times fuel price times hours, rounded to the cent. Repairs and other costs are added. Cost per hour is the year divided by hours, rounded to the cent.

Rules

You type every dollar amount and the fuel used. Litres and gallons are not converted. Salvage cannot be above the purchase price. Zero hours or zero years is rejected.
